Coaching in Education
An Evolving UCA Conversation
Coaching in Education is an evolving UCA conversation exploring the relationship between coaching, learning, teaching and professional development.
This page will grow alongside our Talking Spaces and events, capturing emerging thinking and bringing together research, articles and resources that contribute to the conversation.
Coaching in Education:
Where the conversation begins
Education is a complex and changing environment, shaped by pressures on teachers and students, questions about wellbeing and professional identity, developments in technology, and wider social and policy challenges.
Coaching offers an opportunity to explore these challenges through reflection, dialogue and relationship. Its connection with education reaches beyond individual coaching conversations to questions about how we support learning, professional development, confidence and the people responsible for educating future generations.
Within UCA Cymru, experiences of working alongside teachers and education professionals have prompted growing curiosity about the relationship between coaching and education. Research by Dr Laura Rees-Davies into the potential of coaching to support teacher motivation and retention has added another important perspective to that conversation.
Rather than beginning with a fixed definition of Coaching in Education, UCA is inviting coaches, supervisors, educators, researchers and others to explore what it means through their different experiences and perspectives.
At the heart of this work are reflective and dialogic practices: creating space for people to make meaning together, question assumptions and discover possibilities that may not be apparent when problems are approached from a single perspective.
Through UCA Talking Spaces, panel discussions and shared research and resources, this will become an evolving record of the conversation — capturing questions, experiences, emerging thinking and, potentially, ideas for future work.
There is no predetermined destination. The starting point is conversation, curiosity and a willingness to discover what might emerge.

UCA Talking Space for Coaching in Education
A space to explore, question and shape the conversation together
Our UCA Talking Space for Coaching in Education brings together coaches, educators and others with an interest in the role coaching can play across education.
Rather than beginning with a fixed definition of what Coaching in Education should be, these informal conversations create space to share different experiences and perspectives, explore emerging questions and discover what might develop through thinking together.
The insights, questions and ideas generated through our Talking Spaces will help this page continue to evolve — alongside new research, resources and future conversations.
Whether you work directly within education, coach people working in educational settings, or are simply curious about this developing area of practice, you are warmly invited to join the conversation.
