Raising the Standard in Neurodiversity-Informed Coaching

Neurodiversity Celebration Week – Day Two
Community in Action:
The ADHD & Neurodiversity Special Interest Group

Today’s video features Esther Barrett in conversation with Anita Patel, neuro-inclusion and intersectionality speaker, ADHD and neurodiversity coach, and coach trainer, exploring the story and spirit behind UCA’s ADHD & Neurodiversity Special Interest Group.

And this is exactly what ANUCA is all about.

Why This Group Exists

The Special Interest Group began with a simple but important idea:

Neurodiversity-informed coaching deserves a dedicated, evolving, inclusive space.

What started as a monthly gathering has become something much bigger:

  • A confidential, neuro-affirming space for reflection and shared learning
  • A place where experienced practitioners and new coaches learn side by side
  • A community that welcomes both neurodivergent and neurotypical coaches
  • An ecosystem of conversations that create ripple effects far beyond the call

It’s informal, accessible, and intentionally fluid — because neurodivergent-informed practice isn’t rigid. It evolves.

The Intersectionality Lens

One of the most powerful threads in this conversation is Anita’s emphasis on intersectionality, recognising the diversity within neurodiversity.

ANUCA supports coaches to:

  • See the whole person, not just the neurotype
  • Work in strengths-based, neuro-affirming ways
  • Understand how identity, culture, education, healthcare, and systems intersect
  • Move beyond labels and into meaningful, ethical practice

This isn’t surface-level awareness. It’s professional depth.

Watch the video to hear:

  • How the group began
  • What actually happens inside a session
  • Why inclusivity matters (for all neurotypes)
  • The “ripple effect” that comes from safe professional spaces
  • Anita’s invitation to join

If you’ve ever thought, “I’d love to feel more confident supporting neurodivergent clients” – this is your sign.

Who Is It For?

What makes this group so special and so aligned with ANUCA’s purpose, is its openness.

You might be:

  • An ADHD or neurodiversity specialist coach
  • A supervisor supporting ND practitioners
  • A generalist coach working with neurodivergent clients
  • A coach trainer wanting to embed inclusive practice
  • Simply curious and wanting to learn

You’re welcome.

There’s no pressure to perform.
No obligation to attend every session.
No expectation around cameras or contribution.

Just curiosity, compassion, and shared growth

How This Connects to ANUCA

ANUCA was created as a dedicated arm of UCA to:

  • Strengthen ethical, confident neurodiversity-informed coaching
  • Provide shared learning and peer support
  • Develop resources and signposting based on real practitioner needs
  • Build a professional community that is inclusive in every direction

This Special Interest Group is one of the clearest expressions of that mission.

It’s not theory. It’s practice.
It’s not policy. It’s people.

And it’s growing.
